Warranty Policy

BESTANDFOX is a distributor of products listed on this website. We are not the manufacturer. All products are warranted by their manufacturers. All catalytic converters are accompanied by a warranty card, which must be completed and mailed directly to the manufacturer to activate the warranty. Warranty claims must be made directly to the manufacturer and are subject to their terms.

The manufacturer of the converters warrants that catalytic converters are free from defects in materials and workmanship and that they were all designed and manufactured to meet all Emission Performance requirements specified by the Federal EPA.

The manufacturer also warrants the catalytic converter to meet such requirements from the date of installation for 25,000 miles (40,000 km).

The manufacturer also warrants the catalytic converter stainless steel body components and inlet and outlet pipes welded during manufacturing process and unaltered during installation against defects in materials and workmanship for 5 years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first, from date of installation.

The manufacturer’s warranty is void if the catalytic converter is not properly installed on the vehicle for which it was designed or if it was altered, damaged by negligence, accident, or mishandling.

The manufacturer of converters assumes no liability for catalytic converter failures related to engines not operating within original equipment specifications, to vehicles with illegally modified exhaust emission control systems or to use of specialty fuels, lubricants, or additives.

The manufacture will replace any such defective converter provided that it is returned to an authorized dealer along with the proof of purchase and properly completed warranty certificate. If the warranty claim relates to emission performance, proof of failure of an emission test should be provided. The manufacturer may request proof that the engine was tuned to original specifications and maintained in proper operating condition.

This warranty is issue strictly conditional upon the following conditions:

• catalytic converter was properly installed on the vehicle for which it was designed and catalogued.

• ignition system, fuel system, engine and emission control equipment operates within the vehicle manufacturer's specifications prior to installation and post installation of the replacement and now warranted catalytic converter.

• engine is tuned to the original vehicle manufacturer's specifications and used, serviced, repaired and maintained in proper operating condition at all times.

 

Failure to meet these conditions will void the warranty. Furthermore, this warranty does not cover converters that have been damaged from accidents, road debris, or the use of leaded fuels or fuel additives.

The manufacturer reserves the right to determine what constitutes the vehicle’s proper operating condition.

No other warranty, expressed or implied, including merchantability, applies to the catalytic converter, nor is any person or company authorized to assume any other warranty.

The warranty card has to be returned to the manufacturer to active converter warranty.

BESTANDFOX does not assume any responsibility for any consequential damages occasioned by the catalytic converter, or inconvenience or interruption in any operation. This warranty gives you specific legal rights. You may also have other rights that vary in different markets.

 

General Information about Catalytic Converter Failure and Malfunction

Catalytic converters are designed to last the entire life of the vehicle.

If a catalytic converter fails it means, in most cases, that a malfunction occurred in the exhaust system of the vehicle, prior the catalytic converter.

It is extremely important to detect all the reasons of the converter failure and repair them all before installation of the new replacement to prevent re-occurrence of the problem.

The following are the most common symptoms and reasons of a converter’s failure:

1. Soot Deposits on the internal components of the converter

• black carbon deposits that are very well visible on the ceramic part of the catalyst.

• caused by oil or antifreeze entering the exhaust system or too rich fuel mixture.

• sooth deposits block the catalyst channels and restricts the exhaust flow.

2. Discoloration of the converter

• is the evidence of extremely high temperature in the converter caused by raw fuel entering the converter, igniting and raising the temperature above the normal working conditions.

• body of the converter quickly red-hot and displays heat discoloration which result in catalyst meltdown.

• if any discoloration of the converter is noticeable : all system malfunctions should be identified and addressed immediately to avoid potential damage to the engine.

3. Catalyst Meltdown

• the internal ceramic part of the converter melts and collapses under prolong overheating caused by the raw fuel in the exhaust system

• this condition leads to catalyst blockage causing serious gas flow restrictions, fracture of the ceramic and its partial or complete elimination.

• This condition is caused by various malfunctions such as an incorrect fuel mixture or an improperly functioning oxygen sensor

4. Catalyst Fracture

• consequently to the conditions described above; the ceramic cracks and the catalyst becomes loose, preventing normal gas flow and creating back-pressure

• blockage increases the heat build-up in the exhaust system.

5. Check-Engine Light ON

• All vehicles built after 1996, including passenger cars and light duty trucks come with second generation of On-Board Diagnostics System (OBD II). This system monitors the engine through various sensors to ensure that all emission control components are functioning properly. If a malfunction any of these components occurs, the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL light) illuminates and signals the existence of a problem.

The following are some basic elements and situations that contribute to the damage of a catalytic converter:

• incorrect fuel mixture

• incorrect timing

• corroded spark plugs

• faulty oxygen sensor

• faulty fuel injector or malfunctioning check valve
